I think having this on in the background as you read might be a good idea, helps set the scene!

I've just seen the link above, Topshop's new 'punk' line for the winter. Not that I go around searching for women's clothing you must understand, I was linked to it in a forum. It's probably in the top 5 'worst things I've seen today' although second to maybe John Paul in Hollyoaks (seriously, what a cock!) but it angers me more than that almost. What a load of bollocks.

It's just stupid how Topshop have decided to make 'punk' a definable and quantifiable image, that someone can go out and buy. For a start, since when was it punk to look like everyone else, and shop at one of the most recognisable high street clothing chains? When punk becomes a series of stereotypes that you can easily follow, it ceases to be punk. And simply applying the prefix 'punk' to stuff doesn't make it any more rebellious. At the end of the day, you are still going and spending mummy and daddy's money on clothes.

 Oh and another thing, the clothes all look shit. 'OOH rips are PUNK! Let's put shitty rips in a t shirt!' Why would you go out and buy ripped clothes? WHY? They might as well just put safety pins on a shit t shirt. Anyone can do it!

Quite why anyone who is into punk, beyond knowing who the Sex Pistols and The Clash are, would decide to pay stupid prices for something you can just get for half the price from Camden Market is beyond me. Add in the fact that everyone and I mean EVERYONE will be wearing this shit, and it's just beyond me. Get a sense of identity you fucks, and wear what you want! Not what Topshop tells you is cool to wear this year. Being a fucking sheep is NOT cool.

Oh and that 'I LOVE LDN' T-shirt can fuck off too. Who seriously wears a t shirt of the place that they live, in the place that they live? I'll tell you who, stupid people who live in Hoxton. Oh and the girl in that picture, isn't even wearing clothes in the collection! And wearing too much eye liner or whatever that is, does not make you punk. I'm just waiting for Topshop release a shirt that says something like 'PUNKS NOT DEAD'. I'm sure I won't be the only one to see the irony in something like that. Yeah, if you want shop at places like this, but forge your own identity, not some shop bought one.

And what the hell does 'love my bones' even mean? Fuck!

I know I probably shouldn't be getting this worked up about these clothes, especially from Topshop, when Topman produces abominations such as those stupid t shirts everyone has on when they go out. And yes I know, that punk has to an extent in most peoples minds become a series of clichés, and there's also a certain degree of hypocrisy in anyone claiming they are a punk, when they go out in the same t shirt as their best mate all the time, and everyone in the punk/hardcore scene looks similar. But, looking the same as everyone else, to fit in with this seasons fashion, and calling it 'Punk' is an insult to those handful of people that do genuinely care about punk. It's about not conforming, doing what you want to do, not just doing stuff to fit in, and being true to yourself. Oh, and I'm a sad boring bastard with nothing better to do. So fuck you Topshop.

Jaja, het schooljaar is weer begonnen en dat betekend naast "veel" huiswerk en nieuwe mensen ook zoals ieder jaar de Vredesfeesten, in de volksmond de ballonfeesten genoemd.

De laatste jaren hangen daar ook concerten aan vast. En dat is meestal leuk want die gaan meestal wel door, ook als het regent, waait, stormt of hagelt.

Tenzij zoals vanavond als ze ambras hebben met de fanfare. Alex Agnew's band (Diablo BLVD) trad dus een dik kwartier later op dan gepland...

Maar het was op zich wel heel goede muziek. Alleen jammer dat op het kleine Sint-Nicolaasplein de klank echt slecht is door de gebouwen erom heen....
Ik was dus dan ook zowat potendoof op het einde van het concert.

Dan even gewacht op The Kids, maar ik heb ze toch maar in steek gelaten... M'n oren zouden het gewoon opgegeven hebben...

Maar het was weer een bijzonder fijne, en late, avond... :D

Morgen Hooverphonic én vuurwerk... en laat ons hopen op toch enkele ballons die de lucht ingaan...

Paramore have begun work on the follow-up to last year's Riot! album.

Frontwoman Hayley Williams told MTV News that fans can expect the band's third record to surface early next year and she'll be "psyched" to see which direction it's heads.

''Lyrically, I think everyone knows by this time our band has been through a lot of ups and downs," said Williams. "The past six months have just been ridiculous! Like, personally and professionally, things that we never thought we'd go through, we're experiencing and learning from. And just growing up in general. I think you'll hear a lot of those types of themes. A lot of stuff about friends and relationships, like always.

"I'm excited to see where it goes," she added. "Once I'm home and once we're all writing together and not playing shows all the time, I think things will start pouring out that I didn't really know existed. And I'm psyched to see where it goes.''

It's not much news, but early next year sounds excellent, if a little optimistic. Having the album in my stereo in February/March would be amazing, but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets later than that, into May/June.

As long as the album kicks as much ass as the previous two, i'll be happy.

Exkurs:

Ich finde, man muss nicht alles sagen. Sprüche wie "Ich sage eben, was ich denke!", "Ich bin eben ehrlich." oder ähnliches zeugen von einem falsch verstandenen Individualisus.

Das ist sowieso so eine Sache mit dem Individualismus.

Für viele ist es ganz wichtig, sich abzugrenzen, um individuell zu sein. Natürlich durch Ihre differenzierte Meinung und ihre Art des Umganges. Dabei sind das nichts anderes als Punker, die denken, dass sie durch Lebenseinstellung und Outfit der Gesellschaft Paroli bieten.

Dabei definieren sie sich an der Gesellschaft. Ohne sie, den Spießern, würde ihre Haltung verpuffen, weil sie nur relativ ist.

Gleiches gilt im Prinzip für "Individualisten", die sich jetzt eben nicht durch Kleidung und "Fuck you" abgrenzen, sondern offen zur Schau gestellter eigener Meinung und Unangepasstheit a la "Nimm mich, wie ich bin oder lass es!". Ich lass das dann oft lieber. Kommt manchmal auf den Tonfall an.

Der Punk von gestern ist heute ein besonderer Job oder zumindest ein besonderes Verhalten im Job. Wenn das nicht hilft ein besonderes Hobby und im Notfall hilft auch das Buch auf dem Nachttisch. Sätze, wie "Ich habe das nicht mehr nötig" (Anm: Gefärbte Haare, Lederjacke oder so) pulverisieren sich selbst. Denn wer etwas nicht mehr nötig hat, hat dafür einen Ersatz. In diesem Fall eben oft zur Schau gestellter Individualismus oder eine Familie. Vielleicht auch ein Kind ("Seraya-Alexa" heißen diese meistens) und grenzen sich auch natürlich von aneren Kindern ab.

Es gibt aber auch echte Individualisten, die absolut denken und handeln. Manche mag ich trotzdem nicht. Und angepasste Biedermänner. Manche mag ich trotzdem.  Sind eben alles Menschen.

Finally Punk have been around for a few years in the Austin scene, and have accomplished quite a bit in that short time. Quite a few releases to keep the fans satisfied, lots of touring, GOT THE COVER of MRR, Tobi Vail AND Karen O loves them so you know they're legit (and GOOD).

Their sound is described as, "four instrument-changing ladies from Austin TX that dish out electrifying blasts of pure abrasive adventure." So naturally, I was pretty bummed when I heard they were on hiatus last summer but then a Myspace bulletin made me smile: "We uploaded our new track: "Hypertension", to promote our forthcoming 4-song EP on M'Lady's Records this Fall.

Germs of Youth will be releasing a 7" single: "Six Years Doing Time" b/w "Negative Creep" and maybe another?

Looks like they still have some of their hand-painted 7"s and CD-Rs, so if you want to get high AND hear great music, then be sure to purchase and keep it in a plastic bag in the Texas heat (that's what I did, you shoulda smelled my car). Damn, I just realized how much I wrote already, so real quick, Girl In A Coma. Yes, they're named after a Smith's song, YES, they were asked by MORRISSEY himself to tour with him (!!!) and YESSSS, they're on Joan Jett's record label! What more do you need to know?

They can freakin' rock the house, they're touring with Teagen and Sara RIGHT NOW and they're playing tonight @ Emo's. Get off your ass and see them ASAP! I haven't been given permission just yet to post some audio, but the song I was going to post has its own cool video, so you get a twofer. The album is from a synth-punk group called The Sump Pumps, and the album title is 'The revenge of The Sump Pumps. It's not a bad record, a very boisterous rock recording with synth samplse aplenty.

This is kind of a melancholy FGF, because this is my favorite local band, I've seen them like 20 times, and their last show is September 13th. It's sad when things like this happen, but at least I'll know to get down to Headliners and catch their last performance, no matter what. (They played on my birthday, but I didn't go. D'oh!) It's only $10, so I have no excuses despite my mild distaste for the venue of performance's lack of parking.

Yes, I am in the video. Repeatedly. Mostly it's my back, though, because I'm a moron. Still, that's me in the BrooklynHookers.com teeshirt (black, lettering in a circle, fat guy... you can't miss me). This video was one drummer and two or three rhythm guitarists in the past, so probably about 2003 or 2004. Just my best guess.

A No Coast November

This is a brand new band. Literally, they just started this year. And yet, they already have a very solid sound. This is partially because 3 of the guys have played together in another band, some people in the midwest might recall the band "Save the Empire". But this is a much different band, Steve switched string instruments, and Jeff stopped singing.

Cody Lilly is a very talented guitar player that writes memorable rock riffs and contributes great, subtle lead licks. Ben's drums are tight and contribute to the music, without being too busy or distracting, like some other drummers within this genre. The lyrics are memorable and catchy, and Tyler's vocals mix well with the instrumentation behind him.

"Ten Bucks Says You've Never Had a Conscience" is probably my favorite song of theirs right now, with lyrics like 'its way to late to plead your case, so save your breath, you'll need it when you're six feet under'. Jeff also comes though with backing vocals on this track.

This may be a newer band, but I think there's a lot of potential. If you get a chance, check them out on their tour in the next few months. I Nobunny sono un gruppo di Oakland che reinterpreta con brio ma senza particolari sussulti il garage anni 60, pescando a piene mani dalle perle nuggets del periodo. La loro musica e caotica e il live è decisamente la loro dimensione ideale, dove il cantante di agita come un Darby Crash vestito da coniglio bianco (!). Per chi non ama il genere, Love Vision non lascerà ricordi memorabili, mentre chi non disprezza strutture immediate e suoni grezzi, potrà apprezzare i venti minuti e poco più di Love Vision, che scorre tra le cadenze blues di Chuck Berry Holiday e l'holler da capogiro di Nobunny loves me (un peccato non avere il video per proporla) e la più convenzionale Boneyard, un pop garage che fa il verso agli Strokes senza cadere nel convenzionale.

Me encanta pensar que aunque la sociedad, la educación, los medios, incluso la propia tecnología, se empeñan en poner trabas y barreras a nuestra imaginación, somos capaces de dar otra vuelta de tuerca y crear de la nada nuevos espacios, nuevos sonidos, un horizonte nuevo sobre el que lanzar la mirada a lo lejos. Hace ya unos cuantos años, en la década de los 70, un grupo de chavales malcriados y con malas pintas decidieron que aquella música que escuchaban, casi con monotonía, en radios y conciertos de la época podía hacerse de una forma más sencilla y distinta. Sacaron toda la rabia que tenían dentro y la expresaron en un movimiento punk que alcanzó su máxima explosión (y explosividad) en el mítico año 1977. De las Islas Británicas el punk fue exportado a multitud de países en donde los jóvenes de entonces se identificaron con ese sentimiento de rebeldía y ese aroma de "por qué no puedo hacerlo como yo quiera".

El movimiento punk en la música me recuerda bastante a lo que representó el nacimiento de las redes sociales, y en suma, la Web 2.0. Antes solo unos pocos con conocimientos eran capaces de crear páginas Web, de interaccionar con Internet. El resto solo podíamos conformarnos con la poca flexibilidad de las listas de noticias, o listas de correo, mandar algún mail que otro, y navegar por las páginas que solo unos pocos construían. Pero todo cambió cuando alguien pensó en que Internet tenía que cambiar, que entre esa masa babilónica de internautas había un talento y unas inquietudes que podían llevar a la Web a dar su siguiente gran paso. Se comenzaron a crear páginas en las que sus usuarios podían interactuar con la propia Web, seleccionando los contenidos, votando, participando en comunidad, aportando nuevas ideas. Las plataformas de blogs fueron facilitando su uso para hacer posible que en estos tiempos casi todos el mundo fuera capaz, apenas con algún pequeño conocimiento, de crear su bitacora, podcast, o sencilla página web.

En estos tiempo en los que vivimos, la Web nos envuelve en un manto social en la que la interactuación con los demás es casi tan obligada como satisfactoria. Y cada uno puede coger esos mimbres y decir lo mismo que pensaron aquellos jóvenes de los 70: ¿Por qué no podemos hacer eso mismo, pero a nuestra manera? Poco a poco nos vamos acercando a la Web 3.0, pero de momento las posibilidades y la libertad que se respira cuando entras en Internet es bastante tranquilizadora, observando el mundo que habitualmente nos rodea, en el que cada día estamos más atados a algo, llámalo hipoteca, trabajo, sociedad...

La historia de Camarada kalashnikov komienza en el año 2003 en vilafranca del penedes (Paises Catalanes), cuando se reunen unos amigos en kasa de Txinot y con el a la bateria y Celio a la guitarra, intentan improvisar 4 canciones de ska. Un tiempo después se incorpora Oli que hacia poco que se habia comprado un bajo electrico, acontecimiento que ayudo a que el grupo tirara adelante.

Posteriormente cuando los ensayos eran constantes, se integra en el grupo Marc. Este hecho significa una gran mejora en el grupo, ya que los temas dejan de ser unicamente instrumentales y comienzan a tener voz. La siguiente incoporación es la de Kabreta. Motivado por Marc, se presenta un día en el local de ensayo con su gralla y empieza a perfilar el estilo del grupo definido como Gralla-core.

A principios del 2008 y depués de lanzar dos albumes, el grupo entra en la discografica Radical Record, de la mano de Raul de Red Banner para grabar su tercer trabajo Mans, ment i Cor (Manos, mente y corazón).
